  2. Mother’s Day officially began as a tribute to one woman. Anna Reeves Jarvis set out to create a day that would honor her and moms as a group. First she began the movement in West Virginia and according to CNN the first official Mother's Day celebration three years at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church

  3. Although Jarvis is widely credited as the holiday’s founder. The poet and author Julia Ward Howe had aimed to promote a Mothers’ Peace Day decades before. the idea of Mother’s Day should spread unity across the globe in the wake of so much trauma following the Civil War in America

  4. Woodrow Wilson wasn't the only president to put his stamp on Mother's Day. Franklin Delano Roosevelt personally designed a 1934 postage stamp to commemorate the day.

  5. Mother's Day's founder Anna Jarvis hated that some groups have seized on it as a chance to raise funds for various charitable causes—including mothers in need. In her lifetime, she went after florists’ aggressive marketing, eventually facing arrests for public disturbances, according to CNN.
