  1. 1st Camera and Tripod Workshop By Lexi Mikhalova

  2. Tripod • At the beginning we screwed on the pan handle which allows you to move the tripod head easily. • We started off by raising the tripod. There are six levers. Three on the bottom and three on the middle, these can be turned to adjust the height of the tripod. You should always go from the bottom first as it makes it easier to adjust and less likely to fall. • There is a tilt lock at the side which allows the tripod head to move from side to side. There is also a pan lock at back which allows it to move up and down. • There are breaks that stop and allow the camera to flow and move around. You can tighten them to adjust how it moves. • We did one quarter turn underneath on the bolt to create an air bubble this is called bubbling the tripod. We practiced this a few times to get used to it and be confident. Tripod Head Tripod

  3. Camera • The camera has a small heavy bit of metal in the bottom to help it slide onto the tripod. • Keeping the camera close to you makes it easier to hold and feel less heavy. • Slide the camera in whilst pressing the button on side to put the camera on the tripod then lock it by turning the locking nut on the side. • Unlock the nut by twisting it and slide camera out. • Press the button on the side to release the camera and take it off the tripod. • Make sure you clear the way on the tripod so the camera can slide on easily. • We practice saying mine and yours when we pass things in order to make sure we have something and don’t drop or break anything. Especially the cameras because they are heavy.

  4. Battery • You put the battery on the back of the camera and line it up with the dots. You then slide it in halfway and push it down to hear it click in. • To take the battery off there is a small button on the side that you press.

  5. Using the camera • We worked on zooming in and out by twisting the big bit on the lens. We also worked on focus by twisting the small bit on the lens. • We also worked on light exposure. The blue lever under the camera changes the exposure. You pinch it and push it around. • The silver lever next to it releases the lens, by pushing it and then twist the lens.

  6. Lenses • We looked at different lenses. • Lenses have different numbers on them that dictate how much you can zoom in.  • The bigger the lens the heavier it will be and the camera will want to lean forward so make sure someone is holding it.

  7. Zoom Focus Light exposure

  8. Taking the camera down • At the end we took the camera down using everything we had learnt during the workshop. Before the lesson I had never operated a camera like that and by the end felt a lot more confident and comfortable using it.
