What we have accomplished • Provided ongoing updates from NYSED • Deconstructed the common core standards for each grade level • Wrote sample tasks aligned to the standards • Looked at the vertical progression of skills for each grade level • Upgraded the rigor of the sample tasks in response to the state provided questions • Wrote scaffolded sample tasks to assess necessary skills for the rigorous sample tasks

  9. Primary Resources • Districts have choices regarding the modules • Adopt • Adapt • Delete (Ignore) • If adapting or ignoring, it is highly recommended to implement a Balanced Math Program that will include the following: • Daily Fluency • Problem Solving • Student Reflection

  10. FLUENCY – Let’s Try It • Fluency activities serve a variety of purposes • Maintenance: staying sharp on previously learned skills • Preparation: targeted practice for the current lesson • Anticipation: building skills to prepare students for the in-depth work of future lessons Video Example

Assessment Update • All Common Core aligned assessment questions are secure at this time; however there has been some discussion about releasing some items in the future • Algebra Regents Update • 24 multiple choice • 8 2-point questions • 4 4-point questions • 1 6-point question *Highly encourage HS teams to look at the mid & end of module assessments embedded within the released modules on engageny.org Link to Algebra Regents Update

Today’s Task • Now that the first common core assessment has been given for grades 3-8 • Continue to upgrade the rigor of the sample tasks • Continue to build scaffolded tasks to build up to the rigorous sample tasks • Work on building fluency activities at each grade level • In preparation for district planning, develop questions or concerns to discuss with administrators
