  3. Flight of Icarus • Daedalus and his son, Icarus are held hostage by King Midas. Daedalus decides that he will create a brilliant plan for him and his son to escape. He creates some wings with wax so he can fly away. He informs his son that he will come back for him. • Questions: • What is a low point for Daedalus and Icarus? • Have you ever experienced a low point in your life? Explain.

  4. Flight of Icarus • Icarus begs his father to make him some wings so he can fly. Daedalus is hesitant, but he makes the wings for his son. He tells his son that they will leave when the guards are sleep. • Questions: • Do you feel that this plan could work? • If you were held hostage, what plan would you develop?

  5. Flight of Icarus • Daedalus also gives Icarus special instructions. He tells his son specifically not to fly to low because he will drown and not to fly too high because the sun will melt the wax. When the guards are away, they start the flight (to be continued) Questions: -Do you think Icarus will follow instructions? - Do you listen to your mother and father everytime they give you instructions?

  7. Flight of Icarus • The flight is going well. Daedalus and Icarus are flying together. People see them flying and call them “gods.” Icarus starts to feel real good about himself that he thinks he is a god. • Question: • What do you think Icarus will do now?

  8. Flight of Icarus • Icarus starts to fly higher since he is feeling like a god. Daedalus can no longer see his son. Icarus flies so high that the sun starts to melt his wings. After the wings are melted, he falls into the ocean and dies.
