  1. SEPICS PROGRAMPART 2 Implementation of an emotional detection module.

  2. Content • Recap of internships project • Modification to development plan • Progress report • Development plan • Conclusion

  3. 1. Recap of Internships Project

  4. Recap of Internships Project • Design and develop an emotional detection system that detects in real time the emotional state of the user. • Once developed it is to be integrated into an intelligent tutoring system (ITS). • Allow for control and regulation of users emotion to foster optimum learning conditions.

  5. Recap of Internships Project • Work complete previous to this presentation: • Very basic interface that could simply connect to the encoder.

  6. 2. Modification to Development Plan

  7. Modification to Development Plan • Connect channels • Read physiological signals • Data processing • Heart rate (HR) from BVP • Establishing the dashboard • BVP and SC readings • HR reading • Russell’s model • Iconic face • Base line • Recording the log file

  8. Modification to Development Plan • Connect channels • Read physiological signals • Data processing • Heart rate (HR) from BVP • Establishing the dashboard • BVP and SC readings • HR reading • Russell’s model • Iconic face • Base line • Recording the log file

  9. 3. Progress Report

  10. Progress Report • Setup channels

  11. Progress Report • Read physiological signals

  12. Progress Report • Recording to the log file

  13. Progress Report • Dashboard development: • The dashboard was to be a graphical user control • Display the emotional state via iconic faces (Lang’s model) • Display negative and target regions (Russell’s model) • Display BVP, SC, HR and baseline value

  14. 4. Development Plan

  15. Development Plan • Compute HR from BVP • Compute baseline values for each • Further functionality to the dashboard • Test readings against Thought Technology software

  16. 5. Conclusion

  17. Conclusion • Overall a wonderful and unforgettable experience • SEPICS has allowed for me to further my academic knowledge in intelligent computer systems • Learnt a lot from my work and my time spent here both technically and personally.

  18. Conclusion - Technically • A chance to work on a brand new topic • Learn about ITS and emotional intelligence • Work with new equipment of Thought Technology • Further my knowledge of C++ • First time use of MFC and developing graphical interfaces for C++

  19. Conclusion - Personally • Integrate a laboratory of research and collaborate with the laboratory team. • Enhance my programming skills, in particular C++ • Manage my time and organisation skills more efficiently – working towards deadlines etc • Meet new people and experience new culture and lifestyle
