  3. Heaven and Earth Part 2

  4. Introduction • The Bible is God’s record of Creation • Fact not a Fable • Not a theory • It has not and will not change because it is TRUTH.

  5. Introduction • Studying creation helps us understand God better. • Sovereign Creator • All-powerful, All-knowing • God exists by his own power, separate from creation • Holy and Perfect

  6. Introduction • Today: Creation Day 2 to 4 • Creation moves from the “simple” to the more complex. • This order is important!

  7. Creation - Part 1 • Read Genesis 1:5 • God separated the “light” from the “darkness” • Light -> Day • Darkness -> Night • THIS WAS THE FIRST DAY! Page 2 of Lesson 4

  8. Creation - Part 1 Earth (Water) Water Above the Sky Atmosphere and Sky • Read Genesis 1:6-8 • On the second day, God created the air and the sky! Page 2 of Lesson 4

  9. Creation - Part 1 • How did God create the expanse surrounding the earth? • Though not stated in bible, what do you know about the sky and the water above the sky? Why? • Answer question 20. Page 3 of Lesson 4

  10. Concluding Statements from L4 • God’s account of creation has not changed! • God was there before the beginning and God knows how all things came to be. • God’s Word reveals that God created everything!

  11. Concluding Statements from L4 • God is the source of all energy and wisdom and the Creator of all matter. • He made everything from nothing! • As we continue to study the Bible, we’ll see that God is absolutely sovereign, greater than all and more powerful than all! • He has given us His Word to know Him!

  12. Review • Take a moment and complete the Summary Questions at the end of Lesson 4.

  13. Creation - Day 3 • Read Genesis 1:9-10 • How did God gather the waters into the seas and make dry ground appear?

  14. Creation - Day 3 • What are the following images of? Imagine...

  15. Creation - Day 3 • Read Psalm 95:5 • Only God can control the waters of the earth that He alone made!

  16. Creation - Day 3 God Made Them All • Read Genesis 1:11-13

  17. Creation - Day 3 • God alone has the knowledge and power to create and sustain life! • God made plants to produce seeds that would produce only the original plants!!! (after own kind) • The plants we see today are the same plants from the time of creation! - AWESOME!

  18. Creation - Day 3 • Why do you suppose God made flowers, trees, and other plants? • Recall: God doesn’t need anything • He is independent of all things • Hint: What have you noticed about the complexity level of each created thing?

  19. Creation - Day 3 • God made the plants and trees for man!! • To meet our physical needs (food, oxygen, building materials, etc) • To delight us with His love for us (varieties of colors, shapes, sizes, flavors, fragrances) • To remind us daily of His care and love for man • To show his beauty and character

  20. Creation - Day 3 • God designed everything to fit into the system that He had designed for Earth! • Water cycle • Oxygen Cycle • A true, stand-alone Biosphere! • God is the Master Designer • Everything God made is perfect!

  21. Check for Understanding • How did God gather the waters together in one place? • How is God able to control the waters? • Why do things in nature fit together so well and function together?

  22. Creation - Day 4

  23. Creation - Day 4 • We know very little about the universe; what we do know is baffling: • light travels 186,000 miles in one second • takes 8.5 minutes to reach us from the sun • take 4 years to reach us from the nearest star • some stars take hundreds, thousands, millions of years for light to reach…what a massive universe • God made them all and set them in their proper places!!! He is powerful!

  24. Creation - Day 4 • Read Genesis 1:14-19 • How did God create the sun, moon, and stars? • Did you ever just ponder the vastness of space? • The whole universe reflects the work of the Master Designer - with Order, Beauty & Complexity!

  25. Individual Atoms Creation - Day 4 • What is this? --> • Sharp Needle of Tungsten • Taken by a field ion microscope

  26. Creation - Day 4 • How can God hold the atom together while also keeping all the stars and galaxies in their places? • Jeremiah 23:23-24 says, “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away…Do not I fill heaven and earth?” • God is everywhere! • Everything in the universe is God’s creation, but not part of God’s being!!!

  27. Creation - Day 4 • What makes space travel possible? • What makes scientific study possible? • God created it with order and consistency! • Laws of nature (Newton’s Laws of Motion, Kepler’s Laws for Planets, Einstein’s Theories of Relativity) - all are mathematical models of how the universe works!

  28. Creation - Day 4 • Read Psalm 104:19 • What is the purpose of the sun, moon, and stars? • Mark seasons, days, and years (order) • Read Psalm 19:1-3 • What message is God sending through His creation?

  29. Check for Understanding • Could all the things that we see get here by chance? • How did God create the sun, moon, and stars? • From the smallest of particles to the largest of galaxies, what is true as they relate to God?

  30. Creation - Day 5 • Read Genesis 1:20-23

  31. Creation - Day 5 • God made numerous kinds of water creatures and birds with countless, colorful designs and shapes. Why? • Show His creative power and wisdom • Show His love to us

  32. Creation - Day 5 • Even the tiniest most ordinary creatures are God’s creation and are incredibly complex. • Molecular biology has shown that even the simplest of all living systems on earth today, bacterial cells, are exceeding complex objects. • They weigh less than 0.000 000 000 010 gs and operate like a complex factory…

  33. Creation - Day 6 • Read Genesis 1:24-25 • God created all these and more…

  34. Creation - Day 6 • God created an unbelievable number and variety of animals! • Each has unique characteristics and is only capable of reproducing others like itself! • Only God has the power to create animals! Man can never do this!! • Everything God made is perfect.

  35. Check for Understanding • Why did God make planets, the moon, and the stars? • How do we know that Darwin’s theory of species evolving to more complex life forms is not possible? • What characteristics of the created world point to the Creator?

  36. Conclusion • What should we notice when we look at creation? • Although we can learn a lot about God by observing His creation, our true understanding of Him comes from His Word!!

  37. Conclusion • Hebrews 11:3 • By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

  38. Review • Do the Summary Questions on page 3 of the hand out.

  39. Stranger on the Road to Emmaus • For Next Week… • Chapter 3 up through page 45

  40. Next Week… • Camping…no House Church • Who’s coming when?
