  1. RAINEE SELBY Culminating Project

  2. Why I wanted to do this project…. Some of our Shared Values: Family, Marriage, Kindness, Respect, Dedication, Consideration, Honesty, Love, Communication, & Individuality

  3. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can EACH do small things with great love.” - Mother Teresa • The first real step to creating a positive impact on someone’s life starts with us and our everyday behaviors and actions. There are so many simple things that we can every single day to instill kindness in someone's life. *Random Acts of Kindness* • Mirror Neurons: Kindness is infectious! People are influential on each other’s behaviors. If we spread love and kindness, others will see that, and they will spread love and kindness too. If random acts of kindness can impact one persons life, imagine how much better our world would be if we all worked together to make a difference. • If we practice changing systems for the better on an individual level, others may join in on our experience and eventually, larger systems will be changed for the better as well.

  4. Back Packs for the homeless • Original goal: completed back pack $25 • Final cost: completed backpack $30 • What we did: • Total number of back packs: 6 • Average cost of each backpack: $5 • Albertsons shopping trip total: $150 • Total Spent: $180

  5. What was in EACH backpack • 3 water bottles, 2 Capri sun, 2 cans of fruit, 1 can of green beans, 1 can of ready to eat tuna with crackers, 1 box of (10) granola bars, 2 packages of crackers with peanut butter, 1 can of chili with beans, 1 jar of peanut butter, a package of saltine crackers, two combs, 1 note pad with 2 pens, a pair of socks, 2 rolls of TP, 1 shampoo, 1 deodorant, 1 toothbrush, 1 toothpaste, 1 soap, plastic silverware

  6. Shopping

  7. Why Backpacks? Value Village Back Packs (Average cost was $5 per backpack) -Sturdy –Discreet This helps to ensure privacy of a persons individual situation

  8. Putting the backpacks together

  9. Handing out back packs in seattle!

  10. Can you imagine living there?

  11. Of all 6 people we approached…. One turned the back pack away and one wanted to “pick” through it taking only what she wanted.

  12. What I learned It’s important to do something meaningful together with people that you love. For me, helping others and spreading kindness is what means the most, and there is no one else I would rather share that experience with then my husband. I think that more then anything else, that is the best form of self care.
