Who We Are… Research The American Diabetes Association has invested more than $600 million in diabetes research and provided funding for nearly 4,000 research projects over the life of the program. Association-funded research projects cover the spectrum from islet cell biology and transplantation techniques, to studies in education and behavioral issues.In 2011, the Association and its Research Foundation provided $34.6 million in research grants, supporting more than 400 active projects at 139 leading research institutions in the United States.   9. Information The American Diabetes AssociationIs Making a Difference In the last 18 years, the number of people unaware they are living with diabetes has reduced from: 50% in 1995 to 24% in 2013 We need the support of our community leaders to further reduce this number as we move forward

Information Center for Information and Community Support 1-800-DIABETES Core Activity: To answer questions on diabetes and its management and to connect people to local resources whenever necessary. Responds to an average of 20,000 combined calls and emails a month Both English and Spanish speaking representatives Every Center Representative is trained to: Assist in connecting callers with the appropriate local resources Assist people who face discrimination based on diabetes Inform callers of local Association events and programs as well as volunteer opportunities Process personal donations or contributions Module 4

High Risk Community Programs Awareness, Education & Support African American Initiatives – Live EMPOWERED brings the message about diabetes to the African American Community through ID Day and educational workshops specifically designed for churches as well as communities.
