  2. INDEX • Nuclear power. • Consequences of theradioactivity: - Nuclear and radiationaccidents. - Deformations, diseases and pollution related to the radioactivity. • Residues, nuclear cemeteries. - Location of some nuclear cemeteries. • Opinions of the people about the energy and the nuclear power stations. • Our own opinion.

  3. Nuclear power • The nuclear power is the energy that is liberated spontaneously or artificially in the nuclear reactions. • These reactions are given in the cores of some isotopes of certain chemical elements, being the most known the fission of the uranium with which the nuclear reactors work.

  4. CONSEQUENCES OF THE RADIOACTIVITY • Nuclear and radiation accidents: • Accident of Chernóbil: Chernóbil's catastrophe affected seriously Byelorussia, Ukraine and Russia causing incalculable losses and terrible hurts to the persons, to the flora and the fauna. Besides the fact that there remained contaminated more than 160.000 square kilometres of land.

  5. 2.Accident of Japan: Fukushima's nuclear accident understands a series of incidents, such as explosions in the buildings that shelter the nuclear reactors, failures in the systems of refrigeration or liberation of radiation on the outside.

  6. Deformations, diseases and pollution related to the radioactivity: The effects of the radioactivity in the alive beings are harmful for his physical integrity. High quantities received in small and spread fractions produce late effects, as the leukemia, cancers, cataracts and other degenerative processes. Doses low and spread on the time can produce late effects or abnormalities and deformations in the near generations.

  7. Residues and nuclear cemeteries • The radioactive Residues are residues that contain chemical radioactive elements that do not have a practical intention. • Nuclear cemetery refers to any place used to store radioactive residues produced in nuclear reactions.

  8. The nuclear residues are buried in cans or special containers of lead in order that the radioactivity is not liberated.

  9. Location of some nuclear cemeteries: There are nuclear cemeteries in countries as United Kingdom, The United States, France, Hungary and Holland.

  10. Opinions of the people about the energy and the nuclear power stations • Many people think that the nuclear power is necessary for the economy of the country, since it is the energy that mas produces because with a small quantity of plutonium or uranium a lot of energy is generated. But his major disadvantages are the nuclear cemeteries and the consequences of his escapes and accidents.

  11. Our own opinion • Our opinion about the nuclear power is that though at first it does not contaminate and is relatively easy to obtain, his consequences, in case there is an accident or an escape they are too dangerous and harmful for the health. And we believe that in no case it is necessary to play with the life and safety of the persons.
