  2. RSS • RSS is a protocol that lets you subscribe to content • Can connect to content using a “Reader” • Really Simple Syndication

  3. Subscribe Online with RSS • How does it work? • A website or blog adds a small bit of code with an icon • Users click the icon or RSS link, copy the code and paste it into a reader

  4. What Do You Need? • A “Reader” or “Aggregator” • Supported readers for EbscoHost databases • My Yahoo!, CustomReader, FeedReader, Wizz RSS, Bloglines, Pluck, Safari 2.0, NetNewsWire, NewsGatorGoogle Reader • List of magazines, journals, and blogs of interest

  5. Create a Google Account • Do you have a Google account? • If so, log in now. • If not then click on Gmail and sign upfor a free account • http://google.com

  7. Add Google Reader • Click on more • Select Reader

  8. Open GALILEO • GALILEOhttp://www.galileo.usg.edu/ • Enter password if you are at home

  9. Finding Journals • From GALILEO main page click on • Type title in box & click on find magazine

  10. Finding Journals • Click the i button to see the holdingsand to determine availability • Some journals have an embargo

  11. What Database? • After finding the journal in GALILEO click on the journal title • Click on a database linkfor example, EBSCOhostProfessional DevelopmentCollection

  12. EbscoHost Databases • Click on the Alert button • Then click here

  13. Choose a database • Highlight & copy the syndication feed info

  14. Open Google Reader • Add Subscriptions • Click on • Click • Paste Syndication feed from EbscoHost into Google Reader and click Add

  15. Congratulations • You have begun to get Web content delivered

  16. Managing Your Reading List • Create folders for your feeds • Organize and manage your subscriptions
