  • Protagonist of Fahrenheit 451
  • Fireman, who burns books and houses where they are kept illegally
  • 30 years old
  • Married with Mildred since 10 years

  • At the beginning Montag seems to be the quintessential fireman
  • Thinks himself to be happy
  • Likes his Work “Montag grinned the fierce grin of all men singed and driven back by flame” (Page 5)
  • Seems to follow the laws

  • Becomes discontent as he realizes that his life is empty and unfulfilling
