  1. Welcome Back! Mrs. Pannell’s (formerly Ms. Weinacker) Geometry ClassRoom I-44

  2. About Me… • I’m orignally from Mobile, AL, but have lived in Mississippi for 10 years now. • I graduated from USM in elementary education, but have never taught in an elementary school. • I have taught high school Algebra, Geometry, & Algebra II for the past 4 years. • I love to cook/bake, shop, listen to music & play golf. • I’m the cheerleading coach at LBHS!

  3. About Me… I love spending time with my family! I have 3 brothers, one of which is married and has a little boy & a little girl. I do not have any kids, but I do have a dog named Sassy! I am getting married on Saturday, August 9th! (which is why I am not here right now!)

  4. The soon-to-be Mr. & Mrs. Pannell

  5. My parents! My brother, sister-in-law, nephew, & niece!

  6. What will you be doing this year? • Polygons & origami pinwheels • Theorems • Angles • Vocabulary (the MOST important thing!) • Congruence & Similarity • 2 & 3-dimensional measurement • Pythagorean Theorem

  7. How will you be graded? • Quizzes 15% • Homework 5% • Classwork 20% • Tests 60% • Total 100% • Exam will be 20% of your OVERALL grade for the 9 weeks!

  8. How will you be graded? • As you can see, tests count the most… by a BIG percentage! • But… there is NO WAY for you to do well on the tests without a few things first: • You MUST know your vocabulary terms • You MUST take notes • You MUST do practice problems (in class & on homework)

  9. Entering the classroom • Do not enter the class unless I am standing at the doorway or unless I have told you to come in. • If the door is completely shut, please do not open it and do not knock! • I may be talking with one of your peers and need a few extra minutes with them and no distractions.

  10. Start of class • When you enter, get your calculator, workbook, and any handouts from the back of the room and start working on your bellwork. • Be working when the tardy bell rings. • Look at the day’s agenda on the board… PLEASE don’t ask me what the date is or what we are going to do today!

  11. Attendence • Attendence is taken everyday at the beginning of EVERY class! • You are considered “tardy” if you are not completely inside of my classroom walls and IN YOUR SEAT or getting your daily supplies by the time the bell rings. • You will have ONE “freeby” for tardies! • You will be written up for EVERY TARDY after the 1st one!

  12. Attendence • Each student is given 100 participation points per 9 weeks. Deductions are taken based on attendance and class participation. • Each excused absence is no deduction from their participation points. • Each tardy is a 3 point deduction from their participation points. • Each unexcused absence is a 5 point deduction from their participation points. • Each class disruption is a 5 point deduction from their participation points.

  13. NO CELL PHONES • If I see them, I’m taking them! • If you don’t give them to me, that’s fine, BUT… you will be excused from my class (by an administrator). • You (as a CLASS) will have ONE “freeby” for a phone to make noise, ring, alarm go off, etc… after that I will start taking phones.

  14. Technology Policy • I give you all the technology you will need…which is a calculator! • On occasion, I will allow you to listen to music while you work, but you MUST have EARBUDS, not headphones… & you may only put 1 earbud in, so that you can hear me talk if necessary!

  15. Materials in class • 3 ring binder with LOOSE LEAF PAPER… NOT a spiral notebook • 3 dividers labeled: -Bellwork -Notes -Vocabulary • Pencil(or erasable pen) • DO NOT throw away any of your work, including bellworks and vocabulary lists

  16. Materials in class • PLEASE, DO NOT sharpen your pencil while I’m speaking. • If your pencil breaks and you need a new one, there is a cup full of them to BORROW in the back of the room (PLEASE return them). • Pick-up any handouts from the back table BEFORE class starts. • Bring a PENCIL & PAPER with you to every class.

  17. Student Center for Materials • There are 3 designated areas for materials/supplies for you to use… • The “L” desk & rolling drawers in the back of the room by the window! • The right side of the long table in the back! • The tall, brown bookshelf in the back of the room!

  18. Questions • Don’t be afraid to ask or answer a question just because you think you may have the wrong answer. • There are no dumb questions! • If you don’t get it, let me know… we can do it again or talk about it differently.

  19. No WHINING Policy • This is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining for any reason in this classroom. • Everything I do is for your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this semester. • TALK to me about whatever you have a problem with. Don’t just whine about the work…

  20. My Space, Not Yours • You should never have a reason to be behind my desk… just don’t do it! • I don’t go through your back pack to find what I need, so don’t go through my desk to find what you need. • Pretty much… anything in the front of the room is mine, so don’t mess with it (this includes technology)… PLEASE!

  21. Leaving the room • When you leave you must carry a hall pass and sign-out in the book by the door. • Don’t ask to go to the bathroom/get water unless it is an EMERGENCY! • If you think you may need to go to the bathroom during the class, go during bellwork or after you have finished a test, worksheet, etc. (Remember: You have to ask me first & I have the right to say NO!)

  22. Turning in assignments • If I want something turned in (test, worksheet, practice problems, etc), put it in the tubs labeled with your class period, which is on the front table. • Your NAME & CALCULATOR # need to be on EVERYassignment! • Once an assignment has been turned in, it is mine. You cannot have it back unless it is to write your name… you will write it at my desk!

  23. Tutoring • Every Tuesday & Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:15pm. • You must be in my room by 3:45pm if you want help. • If you need extra tutoring, come talk to me and we can set up additional sessions.

  24. Make-up work • I will have your make-up work in my folders at the front of class. • The next day you are back from your absence please come ask me for your work. • You will have the amount of days you missed to make it up… after that, it’s a ZERO!

  25. Dismissal • Do not pack-up until I have told you to do so. • I will tell you when you can leave my class by saying, “Have a nice day” or “It’s time for your next class.” • You will know by what I say when it is time to leave…

  26. Consequences • First- Warning (name written in discipline log) & loss of 5 participation points. • Second- Loss of 5 participation points, parent contact, & ASD (30 min. after school with me!) • Third- Referral

  27. Special Circumstances • If you have a special need, please tell me before class and make sure you have parent/medical documentation. • Needs to use the bathroom. • (UTI, bladder/kidney issues) • Need to get water. • Need to eat. • (diabetes, hypoglycemia, etc.) • Etc. • If you REALLY need to blow your nose, please step outside to do so ( I HATE snotty noses)!

  28. All In All… • Don’t touch it if it’s not yours. • Treat other people and their property with dignity and respect. • Follow these guidelines and this year should be GREAT! • Follow the rules, directions, etc. the first time they are given.

  29. Dear Class, I am looking forward to a great year in this class. Sorry I am not here for the 1st 7 days to meet you, but I am so looking forward to meeting each of you on Monday August 18th. I know that each of you has the potential to be successful! I am here to help you in any way possible, but I can’t do the work for you… I will be here for help and support whenever you need me. I am looking forward to a very exciting year & I can’t wait to meet all of you on August 18th! Sincerely, Mrs. Pannell
