Ford Foundation Inquiry • Project Title: Development of A Self-Assessment Process For Correctional Agencies To Review Their Staffing, Programming, Classification, Disciplinary, And Work Assignment Processes For Potential Racial Disparity • Date Submitted: July 18th • Inquiry review process: 30 -45 days • Application Process: • Submit Inquiry; • If proposed work aligns with the foundation’s priorities and budget limitations, will be asked to submit formal proposal; • Meet with the program officer to discuss the scope and budget of your proposed project;. • Submit formal proposal; • Proposal review process -- 3 months. • Less than 1 percent of inquiries made to the Ford Foundation result in a grant.

Ford Foundation Inquiry:Purpose of the Project • Goal: Develop a self-assessment process for correctional agencies to review their staffing, programming, classification, disciplinary, and work assignment processes for potential racial disparity. • Project Activities: • Field test the process in four jurisdictions to assess the usability, relevance, and results of the assessment and modify it, as needed. • Create an instructional “handbook” to assist agencies in conducting and interpreting the self-assessment checklist for their jurisdictions will be developed. • Products: • Agency self-assessment checklist; • Handbook; and • Report documenting the checklist, field test findings, and key indicators of racial disparity.
