  3. Hyperbole • Exaggerating to show strong feeling or effect Ex. This car goes faster than the speed of light

  4. Alliteration • The repetition of the first consonant sound in words in the nursery rhyme: Ex. Alice’s aunt ate apples and acorns around August

  5. Metaphor • Two things are compared not using like or as Ex. Her homewas a prison

  6. Personification • Giving human trails to objects or ideas Ex. The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky.

  7. Onomatopoeia • Words that represent the actual sound of something are words of onomatopoeia Ex. Caw, caw

  8. Idioms • Expressions that don’t mean what exactly what they say Ex. It’s raining cats and dogs

  9. Understatement • Expression with less strength than expected Ex. It wont hurt a bit
