Who I was • ---- My nickname was Henry The Navigator because of my school of navigation. • ---- I was born on March 4, 1394 in Oporto (Porto), Portugal. • ---- I only went on one expeditionbut, I sent out about 15. • ---- My papa was King John I and my mama was Queen Phillippa. • ---- I had two brothers (I forgot there names). • ---- I became a astronomer, mathematician, and navigator.

Why I was important • ---- I sent explorers to explore Africa. • ---- I opened a school to train others to use a compass and make maps. • ---- I sponsored trips to explore, boosting the age of exploration. • ---- I fought in the war against the Muslims (Moors). • ---- I captured the port of Ceuta hoping to trade with the Africans.

  4. What impact I had on the WORLD • ---- I started the trade of seal furs. • ---- I mapped out the west coast of Africa. • ---- I opened a explorer school. • ---- The age of exploration grew under my direction. • ---- I brought sugar to Europe (which in extension brought it to America).

  5. When and where I made my journey • ---- I sent explorers to Africa. • ---- I started to teach these explorers in 1418. • ---- I first sent Gil Eannes over the “Sea of Darkness” in 1433. He succeeded in 1434. • ---- I sent Goncalves and Tristao to push past Cabo Blanco in 1441. • ---- I sent Alvise da Cadmasto in 1455 to find the mouth of the Gambia River and in 1456 to find the Geba River. • ---- I sent Diogo Gomes as far as Cape Palmas and I died when he returned.

  6. How I traveled • ---- I sent explorers by boat down the coast of Africa. • ---- I sent explorers by land on the side of rivers. • ---- I sent explorers by river boat upstream to the mouth of rivers • ---- I was sent by my dad by boat to Ceuta to fight.

  7. Interesting facts • ---- I always wore a big, black hat. • ---- The explorers I sent out first saw the Americas. • ---- I was a Duke, Prince, Knight, Navigator, Astronomer, Mathematician, and Scholar. • ---- Historians couldn’t find my last name. • ---- I started exploring at 16.
