Part I warming-up • dynamics: 1) the science that deals with objects or matter in movement 动力学 • 2) the social, intellectual, or moral forces that produce activity and change in a given sphere: • The dynamics of international trade have influenced our business decisions on this matter • 产生变化、行动或影响的力量 • daunting: causing to lose courage or determination; frightening or discouraging • e.g daunting difficulties

  4. You are going to hear a report about the three certainties children need to feel healthy and positive about life.

A1 Listen carefully and note down the three things • The three things children need • 1st: To feel that one has options, that one maintains some control over his or her life. • 2nd: To feel significant in the life of at least one other person. • 3rd: To feel accepted because of his or her individuality.

  6. A 2 Listen again. Take notes for each of the things described. • 1st more highly motivated to work harder/ overcome daunting difficulties and pain • 2nd: Ignored: devastating/ cruelest/ angry/ depressed / frustrated / negative behavior • Respected: thrives • 3rd: deserves / acknowledged / cherished/ unique/ embrace others

  7. B Suggestions on how to overcome some problems. • Pre-listening discussion • Can you make some suggestions on how to overcome shyness, how to stop biting one’s finger nails and how to get in shape for summer?

  8. Vocabulary • nail polish: 指甲油 • tighten up: to (cause to) become firmer or more severe • tummy: The human stomach or belly. • workout: a period of physical exercise, e.g. when training for a sport

  9. Listen to three different suggestions for each of the problems in the chart. Write down the suggestions in note form and then check the one that you think is the best.

Money life: moral and emotional rewards vs. financial rewards/interesting, creative vs. bank balance
