  1. Area Topic so far……. We added these two area formulae to the ones we already knew: • Area of a Parallelogram = • Area of a Triangle = • How to find missing sides by re-arranging the formula Today: Finding the Area of Compound Shapes (including Paralleograms and Triangles!)

  2. Compound/Composite Shapes What do we mean by a compound shape?

  3. Area = 62cm2 How do we find out the measurements? How do we find the area of a composite shape? 6cm 4cm 3cm 4cm x 8cm = 32cm2 8cm 5cm x 6cm = 30cm2 5cm 10cm

  4. 10cm What’s this length? 8cm 10cm 7cm

  5. 10cm 10cm x 8cm = 80cm2 8cm 10cm 2cm x 7cm = 14cm2 2cm 7cm Area = 94cm2

  6. AREA OF COMPOUND SHAPES Calculate the area of the compound shapes below: 8cm 8cm (b) (a) A 20 – 9 = 11cm 11cm 104 + 45.5 = 149.5cm2 13cm 13cm 7cm 15 – 8 = 7cm B 15cm 15cm C 20 – 14 = 6cm 6cm 3cm 18 – 15 = 3cm 13cm Area of A 11 x 15 = 165cm2 Area of B 7 x 9 = 63cm2 Figure out the missing lengths Area of C 6 x 3 = 18 18 ÷ 2 = 9cm2 15 – 8 = 7cm 8 x 13 = 104cm2 7 x 13 = 91cm2 91 ÷ 2 = 45.5cm Total Area = 237cm2

  7. Compound Shapes Group Work • You will be given a paper with compound shapes labelled A to J • You will be asked a set of questions on the Area and Perimeter of these shapes • You can scribble on the paper to figure out the answer • When you do, write it on your boards, do not show • When I say boards up, show them, I will review the answers • If the answer is correct you will be awarded the amount of points for that question (2 point, 4 point and 6 point questions) • Keep a paper for points, I will collect it at the end! HW: Pg 154 Ex 7e No.1 to 4
