Conventions of a front cover The Eyebrow: this gives additional information, this is used to attract the audience as the magazine features more articles that the audience might want to read.it mixes a sport athlete ‘Usain’ and another rap artist ‘Tyga’ this will attract a wider audience MASTHEAD A masthead is another name For the title magazine. The ma -sthead is a banner crossing The whole page, because the Word is very short it sues a Very large font to fit the whole Page. The background: The background shows a scene where cars are blowing up n flames going in the sky, while the character is still standing, this is trying to prove him as a brave man, the last man standing. This makes the audience want to read about a brave strong character as the background shows him to be that. The main image is always of the person the main article is about, the main character is there for the audience to predict what genre the magazine is going to be about. The main image is of a Hip-Hop/Rap artist 50 cent his dressed in suit, looking smart, it says ‘Global Terror, 50 cent wants to be a role model’ this might suggest to the audience that because it’s a terrific scene in the background and 50 cent is still standing, this might suggest he will show the audience how by being a role model. The barcode: its is conventional as it is put in every magazine on the left hand corner Rule of thirds: uses the layout of thirds having text in the left and right hand third and an image in the middle The Cover Lines- the cover lines are usually additional features added beside or under the main image and its article. The size of the font will suggest to the audience how big the article will be about to the audience

  4. Analysing the front cover • VIBE’s front cover consists of various conventions, and not every time that they use the same front cover conventions. In this front cover, it has an eyebrow which is then followed by a masthead that is wide enough to fill out the width space. Its central image lays on top of the masthead, the main colour themes are white, yellow and yellow.

  5. Masthead: Masthead: The main image: Background: Barcode: My front cover has all the conventions of a magazine, and is also similar to a vibe front cover magazine. My front cover has: eyebrow, masthead, barcode, the main image,cover lines….etc

  6. Double page spread My double page spread covers most conventions for it consists of copy, image on left hand side with the person starring at the text which is on the bottom left on the next page and a heading with image on top of the copy.

Representation is not a reality, it is the way in which media represents people i.e with camera shots/way of clothing or the lifestyle they represent. • Representation: My magazine represents a particular age/gender/audience as the main front cover image which stands out which is the subject clearly standing out, the style of fashion that the artist has will represent a particular social group aged between 16-24, which will make them want to buy the magazine. The character used is a male young character, who is a rap artist which will appeal to younger male audience who are into Hip/Hop/Rap. The genre of my music magazine is Rap. The background of the front cover is the artist in blocks, and titled “new artist on the block” this represents the artist as a new rapper making his way to the top.
