  3. Curriculum-Framing Questions CFQ’S Essential Question • What are the contributions of individual organs, tissues, and cells? • How can the failure of any part affects the entire system? Unit Questions 1. What is the structure and function of the heart? 2. What is the structure and function of blood? 3. What is the structure of the function of the blood vessels? • What is the path blood takes throughout the body to provide the body with what it needs? Content Questions: 1. How is the circulatory system important to the human life processes?

  4. Vision for unit By creating this unit, I want the students to • Understand the cardiovascular system to find out how it is organized. • draw diagrams of the various parts of the cardiovascular system to show the structure. • show the relationship between the various cells, tissues, and organs of the circulatory system by creating a flow chart.

  5. Project Approaches As my students work on this project, they • Collaborate with peers • Create a PowerPoint that displays they’re learning • Share their learning with a real audience

  6. 21st Century Learning Students will develop higher-order and 21st century skills in this unit as they • Use the Essential and Unit Questions to guide their understanding of the circulatory system and the structure and function of the heart , blood and blood vessels to their own well being • Communicate their ideas to an audience • Reflect on their reading, writing, research, and thinking strategies, and modify and adapt them as necessary • Use project assessments to self-assess their work and give feedback to their peers

  7. Gauging Student Needs Assessments Use CFQ’s to learn • Students’ ideas about the importance of the circulatory systems • Background knowledge of the circulatory system Assess 21st Century skills • Compare their questions to those in previous units • Set goals for how they will adjust their reading style for this kind of literature

  8. Gauging Student Needs Assessments I can use the information from these assessments to: • Focus on parts of the circulatory systems that students have prior misconceptions about • Plan activities in which they will answer their questions Students can use the information from these assessments to: • Compare their questions to those in previous units • Learn more about the human body and its functions
