All Nature is but Art, unknown to thee
All Chance, Direction, which thou canst not see;
All Discord, Harmony not understood;
All partial Evil, universal Good;
And, spite of Pride, in erring Reason’s spite,
One Truth is clear, WHATEVER IS, IS RIGHT.
J.M.W. Turner, Staffa, Fingal’s Cave (1832)

The best of all his works is the “Confessions”…. It relates entirely to himself; and no one was ever so at home on this subject as he was.
