  1. The Importance of Calibration for Lab Equipment The basic concept of calibration finds its mention in the history. While the term may be rather new, it has been in use since ages. Many ancient civilizations had their own systems of calibration that they used in various processes. In the modern world, calibration is used in research labs using specialized techniques to ensure accurate data and measurement. However, there are several questions around calibration and why does it matter. Knowing these facts about calibration is important to make the best use of calibration methods and techniques. Calibration in general The word “calibrate” can have different meanings depending on its context. In the context of lab research, it usually means standardizing the equipment to ensure precision in delivering results. It can also include marking the graduations on a measuring device or gauging how much it has been deviated from the standard. After successful calibration, the device or measuring tool can be adjusted to restore its precision. Calibration for lab equipment In lab conditions, calibration is about comparing a standard measurement to the measurement taken of a device using an appropriate instrument. If the accuracy of the instrument differs from the standard measurement, it is said to be deviated. Standard organizations set acceptable accuracy ratios. If the calibration gives a result that is different from the standard acceptable accuracy, the instrument has to be adjusted for the accuracy.

  2. Most of the time, calibration is also inclusive of the methods adjusting the instrument as required to meet the standards. Technically, these are two different processes, one is calibration and the other one is adjustment. As one can understand, calibration can be different for different instruments. Consider a simple example: calibrating a thermometer is completely different from calibrating a sensor or any other lab equipment. How and where to calibrate instruments? Calibration is the need in many organizations and companies, especially in manufacturing. It is particularly more important in medical and pharmaceutical industries. In order to get instruments calibrated, one can take them to a lab to get looked at by experts. In other conditions, in-house calibration services can be relied upon. Agencies offering equipment calibration services can offer services in their own lab or at the actual site of construction. They will calibrate the device, note down the accuracy or measurement errors if found. Further work includes reducing errors or making adjustments to the instrument to restore accuracy.
