  1. By Ailsa McIntyre Analysis of opening sequence

  2. Introduction: What is being introduced? Characters - Same girl, who we then connote to be the main character Theme - some girl who is trapped and venerable in a manas house who connotes to be a pervert Genre - Horror, Thriller What is represented? Gender is first represented as the main character is a female anti shows the female staying calm and trying to get herself out of the situation. Gender is also represented when the girl is seen to be texting her dad asking for help which implies she need a man to help her out of the situation and potentially take control of this unknown mans house she is in

  3. Set atmosphere…. The set is the first thing we are shown. It is set mostly in a bathroom and we see the girl on the floor with the door locked. The atmosphere creates a scene of fear as the girl has locked herself in the bathroom, while texting her father asking for help. The bathroom is small and not of a wealthy household, the bathroom suggest it is a house with one person living in it. The set atmosphere has lowkey lighting which links to the idea of fear and the unknown. The idea of unknown is implied as the audience are unaware of the situation and unknown of what may happen to the girl.

  4. - The girl hair is seen to be blonde and plaited which represents her gender and her femininity - Her makeup is natural and is seen to be wearing: black eyeliner, mascara, pink light colour on her lips. This suggest that the girl made an effort and wanted to look nice for the person house she was supposably going to. - The setting is in a house who we are unaware of and not introduced to. - Low-key lighting suggests fear and the earliness of the situation and the potential darkness and horror of what could happen - prop used is her phone which is used a lot throughout as she is using it to try get out of the bad situation Mise en scene:

  5. - Starts with non diegetic sound: makes an eary and spooky atmosphere - Sound is same throughout, ambient sound: keeps the tension tense and adds suspense - Sound gets louder at the end: this happens when jump scare happens to scare audience, a man appears in the gap of the door Sound

  6. - One long shot: gives audience a lot fo detail and room to imagine what’s happening and see the girl POV. A long shot builds the tensions and keeps the audience engaged for what is going to happen next. Makes audience wonder if she is going to move elsewhere - Lots of short cuts: Changes camera angle, POV and the girls different facial expressions Editing

  7. - Extreme close up shot of door look: suggest she’s up to something or in danger and needs to be hidden in secrecy - Close up shot of blonde girl with eye level shot of her eyeliner down: shows her emotions and facial expression of the situation - Extreme close up shot of texting on phone and text message “dad I need your help it’s urgent”: shows she needs help urgently and relies and trusts her dad to help her out of her mess - Birds eye view of girl opening door: shows clearly the setting and shows her actions of opening door slowly to see whats outside the door - POV of camera moving as if it was her eyes looking in other room: held hand camera which suggests its like her eyes moving and what she sees Camera Work
