  3. Only gets up to 54 degrees Fahrenheit! Escape those sweaty tropics. Only 6- 10 weeks of the year! Get here fast! In the Summer Melting permafrost makes big puddle-like lakes, perfect for a chilly kayaking experience.

  4. Brrrr! Put that winter coat to good use! Average temperature is never higher than 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Almost no precipitation! Only 10 inches a year. Perfect for snowshoeing! In the Winter Eerily quiet… Perfect for your thoughts.

  7. Plants are diverse. Animals, not so much… 400 species of flowers! All of them have short roots to grow in the permafrost. Only 48 species of animals! Almost all of them have a white coat in the winter. If you wear one too, you’ll be twins!

  9. THREATS TO THE TUNDRA Global warming is harming this beautiful area. Ozone depletion is causing ultraviolet rays to be too strong. This area does not want a tan! Please help by being environmentally responsible and reducing your carbon footprint. Air pollution also contaminates the significant food source lichen. Many people have not gotten to stay in this amazing area because it is so hard to find a place to stay. Building on permafrost is very difficult. It causes a lot of damage to the ecosystems. The construction pipelines and roads can interrupt the whole ecosystem. Also finding and getting oil, gas, and minerals out of the ground is very harmful. OH NO!
