  5. CALL TO WORSHIP: (Matthew 24:44 NRSV) “ Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son Of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.” OPENING PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, As we begin the season of Advent today, help us to remember that the culmination of this season is the celebration of the birth of your son Jesus Christ. He was born in a manger made of wood, in order to go to a cross made of wood, for our sins. During his early life, as a carpenter, he worked with the very material that he was born into, and ultimately would be the very instrument of his death, WOOD! We thank you and praise you for being in control of even the little things, not only in Jesus’ life, but also in ours. We ask and pray these things In Jesus name, who taught us to pray, saying, Our Father who art in heaven …AMEN!

  6. SCRIPTURE READING: (Matthew 24:29-35 NRSV. Page # 806 in The Pew Bibles) (29) “Immediately after the suffering of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. (30) Then the sign of the son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see ‘the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven’ with power and great glory. (31) And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (32) from the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. (33) So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. (34) Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” May God bless to us this reading, and our hearing, of this, His written, holy word.

  7. WORDS OF STEWARDSHIP: (Matthew 25:21) “His master said to him, ‘well done, good and trustworthy slave; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” Let us now worship the Lord with our mornings tithes and offerings.
