  1. Drive E-Z: Parking Efficiency and Safety Monitoring Callie Farmakis Carolyn Bradley Rachel Kalick Lyndsey Muñoz

  2. The User E-Z Park and E-Z Sense are designed to reduce the driver’s stress and create a heightened sense of safety. Each product is user-friendly and E-Z to operate, adjusting to each driver’s needs. The user can be any age and gender.

  3. The Problem • Have you ever found yourself circling parking lots at malls, schools, airports, sport/concert arenas for what seems to be hours to simply find that one parking spot that is open? In some cases you even fail to find a parking spot, or the car in front of you “stole” the spot you were heading towards. This time consuming nuisance that nearly everyone encounters at some point or another can cause stress or even reckless driving. How to fix this problem, E-Z Park.

  4. The Problem Have you ever felt tired at the wheel and nervous that you could possibly fall asleep before reaching your final destination? Have you ever had road rage which could pose danger to yourself and other passengers? Have you ever wondered if the driver in front of you had the slight chance that they may fall asleep at the wheel and danger you and your family? How to fix this, E-Z Sense.

  5. Technology for E-Z Park E-Z Park is a interface that works with the GPS system in your car. By using satellite connections/video surveillance systems in sync with sensors in parking spaces, E-Z Park will detect and indicate where there are available parking spots and moving vehicles. E-Z Park is easy to use and the screens are user-friendly.

  6. Technology for E-Z Sense Discrete Motion/Pulse-detecting sensors that track a driver’s heart rate and grip on the wheel. This can help to determine how the car interacts and speaks to the driver with GPS driving instructions or overall feedback of the driver’s vitals and mood. Also, for safety purposes, if the driver loses grip on the wheel for more than a certain period of time (seconds), indicating they are distracted, or tired and falling asleep, the sensors will detect the lack of grip and will alert the driver.

  7. The Ideas… • E-Z Park • Open Spots • Moving Vehicles • Elevator/Stair Indicators • Works in parking structures with multiple levels • E-Z Sense • Detects heart rate • Detects grip • Multiple users can operate • Speaker System/Alert Features

  8. Hello! My name is Ralph and I am going to take you on a tour of our brand new, stress-relieving E-Z Park project. The point of E-Z Park is to assist you in finding a parking spot fast and efficiently. Let’s take a look!

  9. To operate E-Z Park, it is very simple. On your touch screen , there will be a button that looks like this  Once E-Z Park opens, it will take a few seconds to load. This is the GPS connecting with the satellite signal, or video surveillance/sensor system, to detect which parking lot you have approached. E-Z Park

  10. Next, the screen will ask you if you approached the name of your parking complex. Once you have selected the correct parking lot, the screen will load and you will be able to view a map of the corresponding parking lot/structure, with all of the available spots. Would you like to park at the Stanford Shopping Center? Yes No

  11. When activated, E-Z Park will use satellite connections to receive an aerial view of the parking lot you have arrived at. E-Z park will then have green lights representing where there are open spaces available for parking.

  12. Let’s take a closer look at the view on your screen.

  13. The green boxes indicate where there is space available. As one can see, this is a very crowded parking lot and it could take a very long time trying to find just those two spots to park.

  14. Now are you asking yourself, what if another car is heading to that parking spot and is ahead of me, how will I know if it is available? Another feature of the E-Z park is that it can detect moving vehicles. There will be a yellow box that represents the moving car. This way you can see if another car is already heading to that spot. Let’s take a look!

  15. If you are trying to park in a garage or a parking complex with multiple levels, the E-Z Park system will sync with a video surveillance system on each level of the structure, as well as with a sensor system that is implemented in each individual parking spot, to allow the user to see where the available spots are on each level.

  16. We also designed E-Z Park to indicate where the stairs and the elevators are in relation to the spots. This can assist you in choosing a parking spot that is closer to the stairs or elevator.

  17. EL ST “EL” represents Elevator and “ST” represents stairs. Let’s take a closer look..

  19. Now we are going to look at E-Z Sense! E-Z Sense is E-Z to operate. It simply starts working the moment your hands are on the wheel. The sensors detect heart rate and how tight your hands grip the wheel.

  20. When you first install the E-Z Sense system, there will be a calibrating process in which the steering wheel detects your resting heart rate and grip. This will serve as your personal baseline that the system will use for comparison when you operate the vehicle. The system is capable of holding multiple baseline configurations, so that if multiple drivers are operating the same vehicle, each user can create their own profile and corresponding baseline.

  21. User One: ____Enter Name_____ User Two: ____Enter Name_____ User Three: ____Enter Name_____

  22. Embedded in your car dashboard is a speaker system that connects to E-Z Sense and alerts the driver in the following situations: 1. If your heart rate becomes irregularly high or low 2. If your grip becomes irregularly tight or loose 3. If you lose grip of the wheel completely

  23. If your heart rate or grip changes from your baseline, the speaker system will alert you through the interface, and if it is a situation that is sensed to be dangerous (such as losing all grip of the wheel) the wheel will vibrate until contact is regained.

  24. “Dear, ‘user name’: Please take hold of the wheel, or tighten your grip. I am having a hard time detecting your hands on the wheel. The wheel will begin to vibrate if you do not re-establish contact.” Alert!

  25. I hope you enjoyed our tutorial on our new products. Our goal is to make your life E-Z and safe. Drive E-Z will be there every step of the way to make your drive more efficient and less stressful.
