  3. Trust The most essential resource is trust.

  4. Honesty Be true to yourself and others.

  5. Campus Politics They exist whether you like it or not.

  6. Passion No passion, no advocacy.

  7. Risk-taking You have to do it, even if you are scared.

  8. Perseverance Don’t get discouraged, it takes time.

  9. Sense of Humor It is so absurd, sometimes all you have is laughter.

  10. Creativity There is more than one way to do things.

  11. Patience The slowness of academia demands it.

  12. Active Listening Listen to everyone, even the nay-sayers.
