What is Personification? • -Personification is when you give feelings and characteristics of living things to non-living things. • Examples: • “The couch sat gloomily in the middle of the living room.” • “The leaves danced in the breeze under the moonlight.” • “The computer greeted the tech nerds with a happy buzz.” • “I saw the sweater in the store, and it shouted ‘Buy Me!’” • “The stingray talked to the ocean floor.”

What is an Oxymoron? • -An oxymoron is an expression that uses two antonyms together to create emphasis. • Examples: • “The blobfish was pretty ugly.” • “The girl sat all alone on the swing set.” • “We drove to the McDonalds drive-thru to get some gourmet fast-food.” • “The boy was still moving when the music ended.” • “The stingray likes to eat jumbo shrimp.”

What is a Hyperbole? • -A hyperbole is an outlandish exaggeration used for effect. • Examples: • “I use hyperboles SOOOOOO much, my mom doesn’t believe a word I say!” • “Melanie is SOOOOOOO funny, she makes Jack Black seem like a sad businessman!” • “Our class is SOOOOOO ‘advanced’ in everyday skills, we make Kindergarteners seem like geniuses!” • “I’m SOOOOOOO bored, I think I’m gonnadie!” • “The stingray was SOOOOOOOOO graceful, it • made the ballerina seem like an elephant.”
