  1. XIS2 Calibration Status at Osaka U.2004/03/16 • Overview and current status of calibration in the soft X-ray region • Energy-Pulse Height relation • Energy-Resolution relation • Quantum Efficiency • Line Profile K. Torii (Osaka U.), XIS2 team

  2. Calibration method at Osaka U. Proportional counter XIS-EU (Seg. C) XIS-FM • We use a (calibrated) proportional counter as an absolute reference counter • Calibrate XIS-EU (Seg. C) against the reference proportional counter • Calibrate XIS-FM against XIS-EU (Seg. C)

  3. Calibration of EU Dispersed X-ray from spectrometer PD PC XIS-EU

  4. Calibration of FM Dispersed X-ray from spectrometer XIS-FM PD Fe55

  5. The datasets (2003/12-2004/3) • EU : 8s × 14000 fr. (2003/12/12-30, 2004/2/17-19) • FM S0: 8s × 5262 fr. (2004/2/26-27, 2004/3/8-10) • FM S1: 8s × 9225 fr. (2004/3/3-6) • FM S2: 8s × 11930 fr. (2004/1/6-14, 2/7-11) • FM S3: 8s × 12810 fr. (2004/1/26-2/6) • FM S1, S2, S3 are complete, some additional data have to be taken for S0 and EU • EU:125-126eV, FMS2:127-129eV, FMS3:128-130eV • EU:2.1-2.4e-, FMS2:1.9-2.5e-, FMS3:2.2-2.5e- (Normal, grade 0)

  6. Energy-PH relation (FM S2, Segment C) • PH=a・E + b • 1/a=3.720 eV/ch • b=1.38 ch Si-K edge

  7. Energy-PH relation (S0-A, S1-C) • Qualitatively similar results are obtained for all the sensors. S0, Seg.A, Grade0 S1, Seg.C, Grade0

  8. Energy-PH Relation (FM S3-A) • Fe55で決めたゲインと~0.1%で一致 • Qualitatively similar results are obtained for grade 0 and 02346.

  9. Energy-Resolution (FM S2, Segment C) • FWHM = sqrt (f02 + wf・ E) • f0=15.2eV, wf=0.45 Si-K edge

  10. Energy-Resolution (FM S3, Segment A) • Qualitatively similar results are obtained for all the sensors.

  11. Q.E.: Input flux is variable … Se-L (1.38 keV) W-M (1.77 keV) O-K C-K Auedge +15% Aledge Siedge

  12. W-M (1.77 keV) Ratio of 2004/2003 EU data Se L-α(1.38 keV)

  13. The dispersed spectra for Seg. C, Grade 02346 C-K O-K S0(×1024) S1(×256) EU2(×64) S2(×16) S3(×4) EU1 Se-L

  14. Uncorrected relative Q.E. (Seg. C, Grade 02346) S3 S2 EU2 S1 S0

  15. EXAFS and XANES at Oxygen K edge Oxygen K • FMS2, Segment 2, Grade 02346 Carbon K EXAFS, XANES

  16. Line profile (low energy tail) Oxygen-K (0.525 keV), H.V. = 1 and 5kV XIS2-S2 Counts 1 kV XIS1 (H.Katayama master thesis) • The effect of applied high voltage (5 kV) is almost negligible. • Tail component is significantly smaller than that for XIS 1. 5 kV Pulse Height

  17. Summary • Cal. Data were obtained with Fe55 and spectrometer (~0.2-3 keV). • E-PH, E-Resolution relations are as expected. • Low energy tail component is smaller than that for XIS1 sensors. • We find that X-ray flux from the generator is variable on long timescale. This has to be taken into account before calculating QE. • BPSG layer thickness does not seem to be significantly thinner for FM sensors than for EU (preliminary).

  18. Line profile (low energy tail) Counts • Tail component is significantly smaller than that for XIS 1. Pulse Height

  19. Dispersed spectra (Q.E.) S3 S2 S1 EU(2) S0 EU(1) Energy [keV]
