  1. Instant Review System in Badminton Prof. S. K. Yadav Prof. & Head Department of Physical Education Devi Ahilya University, Indore (M.P.) Kavita MPEd IV Sem 2013 -14 Babita MPEd IV Sem 2013 -14 Sangeeta MPEd IV Sem 2013 -14 Department of Physical Education Devi Ahilya University, Indore (M.P.)

  2. INTRODUCTION An official’s decision shall be final on all points of fact for which that official is responsible except that if: • In the opinion of the umpire, it is beyond reasonable doubt that a line judge has clearly made a wrong call, the umpire shall overrule the decision of the line judge. • An Instant Review System is in operation, the Referee shall decide on any line call challenge using the system.

  3. On a court where an Instant Review system is in operation a player/pair may challenge a Line-judges call, or the overrule call of an Umpire. INSTANT REVIEW SYSTEM

  4. The challenge must be made immediately the shuttle has landed and the call made, and before the commencement of the serve for the next rally.  On receiving the player’s challenge the Umpire will signal the Referee who will review the line call using the Instant Review system. If the call by the line-judge or overrule by the Umpire is deemed incorrect, the players challenge is successful, and the decision by the line-judge or Umpire is reversed. PLAYER CHALLENGE

  5. A player/pair has two rights to challenge line calls during the duration of the match. If a call, after review, is deemed correct then the player/pair loses one right to challenge. If the player/pair is deemed to have incorrectly challenged twice then they lose any further right to challenge during the match. If the player/pair’s challenge is successful they retain the right to challenge and do not lose it. LOSING THE RIGHT TO CHALLENGE

  6. The first tournament where the Instant Review System was in operation was the Djarum Indonesian Open – OSIM BWF World Superseries Premier, 10-16 June 2013 on Court 1 – the Television court (but from the first day of the competition). Cameras was also be in place for a second demonstration during the Li Ning BWF Sudirman Cup 2013 in Kuala Lumpur in May – but there was not be a player challenge system in operation during the Sudirman Cup. WHEN DID IT START

  7. Player Challenges are only available at tournaments implementing the Instant Review System technology. Player’s cannot challenge line calls at tournaments or on courts that are not running the system. The Malaysai shutteler Lee Chong Wei use this system first time successfully. NOTE…………..
