  1. WHAT IS CHEFS MOVE TO SCHOOLS? The Chefs Move to Schools program, founded in May 2010, is an integral part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative to raise a healthier generation of kids. Chefs have a critical role to play in reversing and preventing childhood obesity, and Let’s Move! invites them to use their expertise to help kids achieve the long, healthy lives they deserve. The Chefs Move to Schools website provides a platform for chefs and schools to create partnerships in their communities with the mission of collaboratively educating kids about food and healthy eating. 2. How chefs and schools can promote change Schools can partner with chefs to work with: • Food nutrition staff in K-12 school meal operations • Administrators and teachers • PTA and after school clubs to help improve the way children interact with food, from the cafeteria to the classroom to home. “We are going to need everyone’s time and talent to solve the childhood obesity epidemic and our Nation’s chefs have tremendous power as leaders on this issue because of their deep knowledge of food and nutrition and their standing in the community. I want to thank them for joining the Let’s Move! Campaign.” • Chefs can use their culinary creativity and knowledge to engage students by: • Hosting classroom cooking demonstrations • Starting a school garden • Coordinating a health fair • Speaking at a school assembly • Creating other fun projects —First Lady Michelle Obama The USDA and Let’s Move! have created excellent resources for chefs and schools to help students get involved.
