  1. The Symbols of Lent

  2. Symbols • What is a symbol? • Why do you think we have them? • What other symbols in Catholicism can you think of…baptism…marriage etc?

  3. Fasting • We remember the time that Jesus spent in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights after his baptism. • What happened to him whilst he was there?

  4. Almsgiving • During Lent we try to help others by giving them the things that we do not need. • We think about the people that are not as lucky as us and we try to help them. • What does this have to do with Jesus during this time of Lent?

  5. Prayer • We try to make more time for praying during Lent to build our relationship with God. Just like when we haven’t spoken to friends or family for a while, we must get in touch with them and make time to speak to them. • We like God to know that we are preparing for Lent.

  6. The Cross • Why is the cross a symbol we recognise and think about during the season of Lent?
