Let’s Review… • The Direct Object answers the question WHO or WHAT after the verb. • When we identify the Direct Object we can replace it with a pronoun. • The pronoun can be placed in the following locations: • Before the conjugated verb • Attached to an infinitive verb • Attached to the progressive form

  3. WHAT IS An INDIRECT OBJECT? The indirect object tells us WHO the direct object goes to. ¿Qué? ¿Qué? For example, in the sentence: “He gives the book to María.” The direct object is BOOK, and the indirect object is María. For example, in the sentence: “He gives the book to María.” The direct object is BOOK, and the indirect object is María.

  4. Let’s label some sentences... Label the SUBJECT, VERB, DIRECTOBJECT, and INDIRECT OBJECT. Johnny gives his dog a bone. I.D.O. D.O. SUBJECT VERB Johnny gives a bone to his dog. SUBJECT VERB D.O. I.D.O. Johnny gives his dog to the SPCA. D.O. SUBJECT VERB I.D.O. I sing often. SOME SENTENCES HAVE NO INDIRECT OBJECT! SUBJECT VERB

Let’s do some more…You find the INDIRECT OBJECT • I give a lecture to the kids. • We give the bill to Laura. • You have to tell the price to us. • Raul gave Eva the flowers. • SeñorRudis showed us the power point. • Mom serves enchiladas to her guests. • Ricky Martin gave the CD to my friends.

  8. Indirect Object Pronouns What is the problem with the following sentences? I bought my friends a pizza. I go to the movies with my friends. I play baseball with my friends. I have many classes with my friends. THEM THEM THEM TOO MANY FRIENDS!!!! What should we do? USE A PRONOUN!!! .

  10. Where do we place the pronoun? 1. Before the conjugated verb. Voy a dar el disco a mi novia……… Yo le voy a dar el disco. 2. Attached to an infinitive. Voy a dar el disco a mi novia…….. Voy a darle el disco. 3. Attached to progressive (requires an accent). Yo estoy dando el disco a mi novia.…….. Yo estoy dándole el disco.

Re-write with a pronoun. • I sing for my parents. • We have to make coffee for our favorite Spanish teacher. • You have to make dinner for your dumb, ungrateful family. • Túcompras la television paramí. • Yovoy a dar un beso a todaslaschicasfeas y bonitas.   13. Una cita inolvidable ( genial / terrible) Tú estás muy feliz porque tuviste una cita con una persona muy interesante. La cita fue genial, por otro lado tu mejor amigo/a también tuvo una cita pero su cita fue terrible/desastrosa Tu amigo/ y tú quieren hablar acerca de sus experiencias. • Saluda a tu amigo, pregúntale como le fue en su cita el sábado pasado? ¿Qué pasó en la cita? (3) ¿Por qué fue terrible?(3). Además tiene que describir a la persona (presente 4 características). • Luego tu amigo te va a preguntar cómo fue tu cita y tú vas a contarle que tu cita fue genial. Descríbele a la persona, apariencia física y personalidad (4 presente). ¿Qué es lo que más te gustó de esta persona? ¿Qué paso en la cita? (3)
