  1. Eight Steps to a perfect bathroom • Space Layout – when laying out all bath components (shower, toilet, medicine cabinet) think about proximities as well as how it will work when you are getting ready in the morning or relaxing at night. Walk through physical space and run through you’re a.m./ p.m. routine. If you can only afford to hire a professional for a portion of your project, this is it!

  2. Selecting Fixtures When researching fixture (sinks, toilets, and tubs) types, think function first. Your bath is a workstation to prepare you for the day ahead and a refuge for resting from a hectic day.

  3. Lighting Both decorative and technical lighting of supreme importance in a bath. Presence of mirrors importance of style require additional lighting considerations. Type of lamp used ie, fluorescent, incandescent, low voltage or LED – in combination with color tones used in space effect skin tones dramatically Task areas, shower and vanity, require well planned fixture type and placement At vanity, sconces are most flattering as they illuminate features from both sides Natural lighting, sky-lights and tube-lights

  4. Know your surfaces Learn inherent qualities of surfacing materials. Marble – will it be durable enough, what kind of maintenance does it require? Slip resistant product for the floor? Grout – epoxy vs. standard Polished metals – water spotting?

  5. Color palette and Style Colors should be flattering to skin tone Style doesn’t have to be complicated, it can be very successful being simple and straight forward Layered and Complex style can be exciting however, More important that it is not to great a departure from the rest of your home

  6. Add drama with fixtures Think of plumbing fixtures, bath accessories, and decorative lighting as jewelry for the bath – Bling, Bling!!!

  7. Mix Soft and Hard Materials Inherent harshness of many bath materials necessitates balancing with softness in as many other materials as possible. Use fabric and other softer goods (towels, shower curtains, window treatments and upholstered pieces)

  8. Include Plants and Greenery Organic lines and shapes of greenery will contrast and thus help balance the square edges of tiles and will soften the hardness of the stone, metal, porcelain and glass.
