our current reality
Our Current Reality
  • Students who take Algebra I as an 8th grade student must meet criteria to advance to the next course.
    • They must earn a grade of ‘B’ or Higher
    • If a student gets a ‘C’ then teacher recommendation is required
  • Students who earn a grade of ‘D’ or lower must retake the course
  • No high school credit is given
  • All Algebra I students take the End-Of-Course Exam
    • This is required by DESE
requirements to earn credit
Requirements to Earn Credit
  • Your child must earn an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ for BOTH SEMESTERS during the time he or she is taking Algebra I.
  • Students must take the End of Course (EOC) exam.
    • As is our current practice, all students taking Algebra 1 must take the EOC Exam for Algebra I this spring.
    • This follows state testing procedures.
  • All students must have a signed agreement.
what happens if my child does not earn the credit
What happens if my child does not earn the credit?
  • Nothing! He or she will enter his or her freshman year like the majority of our students—with no credit. He or she will sign up for math based on teacher recommendation, achievement level and parent input.
  • This is a situation where your child has the possibility of gaining a credit but will lose nothing if he or she does not meet the requirements.
