  2. WHAT IS CATALONIA? Catalonia is a country with in a state, but Catalonia is an autonomous region of Spain a geographical diversity a lot marked in a relatively reduced territory, of 32.000 km² with a maritime border of 580 km.

  3. THE INHABITANTS. Catalonia has 4 provinces (Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida and Girona) with a division of the Catalan Administration in 41 regions. Nowadays Catalonia has more than seven a million inhabitants.

  4. CLIMATE OF CATALONIA There is a climate with moderate temperatures and some not very abundant rains that are concentrate in the autumn and in the spring. The summers are usually specially warm and dry. The winters are not usually specially cold nor humid.

  5. THE LANGUAGE The language of Catalonia is Catalan. The limits of the linguistic domain include Catalonia, the País Valencià (with the exception of some regions), the Balearic Islands, Andorra, the Border of Speaker|West (Aragó), the city of the Alguer (on the island of Sardenya, Italy), the Catalonia of the North (95% of the Department of the Oriental Pyrenees, France)[1] and the Carxe, a small territory of Múrcia has was filled by modern migrations of Valencians.   9. 11th September is the National Day of Catalonia,and it is the fall of Barcelona after months of siege in 1714. This day there are demonstrations, concerts and informative meetings. Many catalan citizens hang flags o flags in their balconies. On the 11th September the consequent abolition of the institutions and Catalan civil freedoms are also reminded.

  14. 11th September of 1714 On the 11th September of 1714, the soldiers of the borboniques troops of Felipe V assaulted Barcelona. It was the end of the war of succession, in which Catalonia was put from the side of the archduke Carlos d'Austria. The victory of Felipe de Anjou brought to the enactment of the decret de Nova Planta in 1716, by which the destruction of the Catalan institutions was consummated.

DECRET DE NOVA PLANTA The denominated Decret of Nova Planta , organized the judicial institutions in Catalonia, respecting the Constitutions and previous practices, establishing that the lawyers were experts in legislation and Spanish Catalan language. He fixed the Castilian merely as a juridical language and eliminated the privileges for birth in a determinate territory.

  16. THE DEATH OF FRANCO The death of Franco happened the 20th November of 1975. He was buried in the Valle de los Caídos. Juan Carlos I was his successor like Franco had decided on 22nd July of 1969, according to the law of succession of 1947.

  17. THE END OF A DREAM: THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR It was a war between two sides among republican and falangists, the falangists were those who were beside Franco a dictator, lose the republic side and with them the dreams of many people who had to go into exile.

  18. CATALONIA UNDER FRANCO´S REGIME A fascist dictatorship. The dictatorship of Franco a commander of the Spanish army exterminated the republicans.

THE CULTURAL REPRESENTATION OF THE CATALANS Prohibitions that Franco made in Catalonia -The abolition of the statute of autonomy -Prohibition of the public use of the Catalan -Annulment of all the legislative work of the Parliament of Catalonia -Persecution of the civil servants who worked them of the Generalitat -Transfer from many Catalan-speaking teachers and substitution for coming teachers of other places of Spain.

  20. THE RISE IN THE POWER OF JUAN CARLOS After the death of Franco, Juan Carlos de Borbón is crowned King of Spain. Is speech of coronation is hopeful for whom they ask for a democratic system.   23. THE CULTURE OF THE WINE The origin of the wine isn’t very clear, but there is not any doubt that it comes from anywhere from the Mediterranean. The Romans brought the vineyards and the month production of wine from the Nostrum sea. The ships came from the Iberian Peninsula loaded with amphora's full of wine heading to the metropolis. The Greeks say that Cyprus was the first Mediterranean country where the wine was made.

THERE IS A MUSEUM OF WINE IN VILAFRANCA DEL PENEDES -It was opened in 1945, it is placed inside the mediaeval palace in the Gothic neighborhood of Vilafranca. -The exhibition of the material is carried out in stalls in eleven rooms, the evolution of the techniques is shown and there is and exhibition of the wine in the region. -The museum has the following sections: -The museum of the local archeology. -The local Geological museum. -The collections of art and the important month session, the museum of the wine.

  25. LOCAL FESTIVITY MANSION The Home of the Local Festivity, that begins on 29th August to the 2nd September.It’s a place where the folklore of the important localfestivity of Vilafranca del Penedès is shown.
