  1. IT Modeler Check Point February 2, 2006

  2. The information needed to make informed, strategic and tactical decisions is limited due to the absence of a common repository for information about IT resources for all HHS agencies. Resources meaning the tools, systems, services, people, etc. What’s the Problem?

  3. Where is the information today? Software such as excel or word Frequency of update or validation Local or network drive Knowledgeable employee Consistency of information Duplication of effort Sources of information

  4. Week 1 – Installation, trial run, full run of data discovery, Unisys on-site Week 2 – Data alignment, training, knowledge transfer, Unisys on-site Week 3+, EASM will continue to populate ITM with data to explore capabilities of product Determine reports that provide the greatest benefit. Prepare assessment of issues, recommendations and lessons learned Schedule of Activities

  5. POC focus • Discovery • Initially 10 systems for validation (performance, ETC) • Scale to perhaps 100 systems • Alignment • Align portions of TechCat • Align portions of SysCat output with discovered systems • Align other HHSC data collected • Reporting • Generate custom reports per HHSC • Training • Train HHSC on installation • Execution of all ITM components including process on data alignment • 4 week effort (2 weeks on site engineering assistance)

  6. Kickoff technical meeting on January 23 Members from across infrastructure org. participated Concerns addressed through test run approach Installation

  7. Environment

  8. Started with a 10 named servers for dry run Then ran larger listing for full discovery 255 servers list (159 successful IP address) Then ran smaller list for subnet discover Results 146 discovery (91 DHS, 32 MHMR, 23 WDC) of 159 Wintel Discovery

  9. Monitoring metrics Specific Systems

  10. Monitoring metrics Domain selected

  11. Monitoring metrics Distribution of operating systems across domain

  12. Analysis of Average CPU and Memory Utilization across the domain Monitoring metrics

  13. Monitoring metrics Combined average where minimum up time increased

  14. Two processes: manual & automated Automated process uses an Excel Template HHSC model mapped to ITM Data aligned with Model Data then imported Data Import

  15. Systems Catalog data Enterprise-wide Selected data gathered from DCC effort Selected data gathered from DR Organizational diagrams Selected data found in PMRS Technology Catalog data Enterprise-wide (pending) Data Import

  16. Installation Configuration Discovery Process Model definition Data Import Data Alignment Navigation of the tool Change management Resource requirements Slide Deck of over 1000 slides Reports (pending) Security Model Rules/ Permissions(pending) Training

  17. Development of custom reports Created unique HHSC Visio navigation view Created customized import workbooks SysCat workbooks Identified additional requirements for installation Network DB Extras

  18. Error Logging Discovery-Long Fully Qualified Name Network-port Requirements DB install-compatibility mode issue UI improvements Report improvements Excel Transform Improvement Unisys Take Aways

  19. Security model & report review items to be completed Unix sample to be discovered Database sample to be discovered HHSC will continue evaluation for 2 weeks Unisys will provide support off-site Evaluation to be submitted to project sponsors Next Steps
