  1. Science Fiction On a piece of paper, write the following titles as we go through them. After the presentation, number the projects according to what you wish to do first through what you do last. FYI: You have to do the research paper at some point even if you do not get to all of the novels.

  2. Ender's Game is a science fiction novel that tells the story of Andrew Wiggin (nicknamed Ender by his sister, Valentine.) The story takes place on Earth in the future. Earth has been attacked twice by an alien species called Buggers, nearly destroying the human race. Mankind begins training young geniuses to become soldiers and commanders to fight in Earth's defense if the Buggers should ever attack again. Ender is extremely intelligent, and at the age of six years old, he goes to Battle School to be trained. Ender quickly rises to the top in Battle School and begins training in order to command Earth’s fleet.

  3. Winston Smith is a low-ranking member of the ruling Party in London, in the nation of Oceania. Everywhere Winston goes, even his own home, the Party watches him through telescreens; everywhere he looks he sees the face of the Party's seemingly omniscient leader, a figure known only as Big Brother. The Party controls everything in Oceania, even the people's history and language. Currently, the Party is forcing the implementation of an invented language called Newspeak, which attempts to prevent political rebellion by eliminating all words related to it. Even thinking rebellious thoughts is illegal. Such thoughtcrime is, in fact, the worst of all crimes.

  4. A scientist invents a time machine and uses it to travel hundreds of thousands of years into the future, where he discovers the childlike Eloi and the hideous underground Morlocks.

  5. In this book, our hero, Guy Montag struggles to reveal the truth of the futuristic conflicts of the story. In this story, books or almost any other form of literature is completely and utterly banned. To take care of the rebels who decide to ignore the laws there are firemen, people hired for the soul purpose, which is to burn literature. The main character, Guy, has people such as Professor Faber to help him with his dilemmas. This was definitely one of Ray Bradbury’s best books.

  6. Deeply concerned with the welfare of contemporary society, Wells wrote his novel of interplanetary conflict in anticipation of war in Europe, and in it he predicted the technological savagery of twentieth century warfare. Playing expertly on worldwide security fears, The War of the Worlds grips readers with its conviction that invasion can happen anytime, anywhere—even in our own backyard.

  7. This collection of 40 stories, ranging from the mundane to the inspired, offers a sufficient variety to tempt both the newcomer and the devoted fan. The difficulties of day-to-day life for settlers on the planet Mars are revealed in the classic ``The Martian Way.'' You will read this and other various stories as a group and critique his work.

  8. Research Paper You will write a research paper and design a presentation based on your research. The topic is up to you, so do something that fascinates you! Remember this is not a report, but a paper that proves something!

  9. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, DUNE is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream. A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, DUNE formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.
