Care needs that influence Self Concept Turn to P 289 for more detail.... • Recognition of Diversity - • Active Support - • Promotion of Independence - • Promotion of Choice - • Respect and Dignity - • Protection - • Multidisciplinary care • Individuals need to value themselves eg have a high sense of self esteem. • Care workers must practice a range of approaches when working with clients/ service users to support their self concept and self esteem needs. Multidisciplinary Care: care provided by a range of different agencies and professional carers eg social work, nursing, social care, psychiatry occupational therapy, speech therapy, medicine

Anita – 89 years old • Now read about Anita and identify her care needs. • Identify the skills care workers are using to help Anita maintain a high level of self esteem. • What other agencies may be involved with Anita?

How do these interventions improve the day to day lives of individuals? (P4) • Now explain the potential similarities & differences of individual care needs of individuals at different life stages, and the support given by care workers to support service users of different ages. (M3) • Now go on to explain how meeting individual care needs can improve the individual’s self-conceptby producing two care plans for two service users (D2) You will need to read P 289 - 293 of your books You can also use the Help sheet provided

  5. Complete two care plans for the following service users, when complete write a short report explaining your decisions and how the care plan will meet the service users’ needs. (D2) Service user 1 Margaret is 76 years of age, until recently she lived an independent life. Shed had worked as a receptionist and was able to manage her daily and financial arrangements. Four months ago she suffered a stroke which has affected her speech and mobility. She is very frustrated and finds daily living very difficult, especially tasks such as washing, dressing and feeding her self. Write a care plan for Margaret which will address her needs. A Care Plan: a written document that outlines how the needs of an individual are met.

  6. Service User 2 Felicity is 14 and seems to e having a difficult adolescence. She has always found school difficult and has been diagnosed with dyslexia. She often gets in trouble for being disruptive, but she tells her parents this is because she is bored. Felicities parents feel that her friendship group is not helping the situation and has banned her from going out at weekends as they believe that Felicity may get involved in drinking and drug taking. Home life is becoming very difficult and Felicity often arrives home late and spends the evenings alone in her room. Felicities mum has asked that that the family receive some help and advice. Write a care plan for felicity and her parents.
