  2. Remember the old days and the “pick-up” game?....Well, it’s not entirely back, but it’s close….

  3. The WYS Westwood Soccer Academy Guiding Philosophy: > Soccer for kids should be, first and foremost, FUN. • Unfortunately 70% who register to play youth sports in the US quit by age 13 and the #1 reason cited is “because it wasn’t fun anymore”. > Technique is key. • Developmental priorities for young players should be: skill and confidence with the ball, stable and precise movement, and creativity. These come through repeated unending touches on the ball and uninterrupted play. > Free play leads to creative play. • The best way to get better at soccer is to play soccer, freely (no stress) and with little intrusion, in an environment where experimentation is encouraged and where mistakes can lead to new insight. Objectives: > Provide a safe, fun and positive environment where there is no pressure on the kids to “win at all costs” or “be the best.” > Provide development opportunities for all players The Program: > The introduction of In-Town teams and games > The continuation of New England Revolution training clinics

  4. Westwood Soccer Academy Overview OVERALL COMMITMENT This Fall, whether a player is enrolled for travel or in town soccer, he or she will play soccer at least 2x per week. • In-Town Only players – 1x Practice, 1x Game. • In-town only players will play one in-town game and have one Revs practice per week for 8 weeks beginning the week of Sept.10th • Travel Team players – 1x Practice, 2x Games • In addition to the above commitment kids playing travel will have an additional game on Saturday. WYS provides no additional resources for travel team practices, however, if field space becomes available coaches may have an “optional” practice. No travel team player shall ever be penalized for not attending a travel team “optional” practice. SEASON In-town season will run for 8 weeks beginning week of Sept 10. In-town games & practices will be on weekdays. TEAM FORMATION All In-town teams are formed so that they are roughly equal or “balanced” in skill. ROSTER & GAME FORMAT There will be 10 players per team and games will be 6v6. All games consist of (2) 25-minute games FIELDS Games will take place at Hanlon, Downey and Sheehan. Revs Clinics currently scheduled for Westwood Station while WYS awaits approval for Deerfield. COACHES & REFEREES There will not be coaches, but rather “facilitators” (see next page) All games will have local WYS referees SCORES & STANDINGS Scores will be kept but there will be no “League Standings”

  7. So what are the WYS Program & Playing Priorities for your son/daughter? • PROGRAM PRIORITIES • WYS Soccer Academy • BAYS Travel • PLAYER PRIORITIES (in terms of encouraged attendance) • In-Town Games • Revs Academy Clinic Practices • Travel Team Practices* * Important Policy Change • Travel team practices are absolutely an option we encourage because we all know that there are kids who want to practice more than others, but please be aware that players on any team who decide not attend these practices MUST NEVER BE PENALIZED in terms of playing time or otherwise. We trust our coaches will not violate this policy.
