  5. What is success? “To be all I can be, I need to help you be all you can be” John C. Maxwell

  6. Why Do People Fail? Three reasons why people do not become successful: • Many people just don’t feel the need to succeed • Some are afraid of success • Others are suspicious of success

  7. S – Select Your Goal Do you know what you want out of life? • Your goal must include others • Your goal must be worthwhile • Your goal must be clear • Your goal must be measurable • Your goal must be expandable • Your goal must be filled with conviction

  8. U – Unlock Your Imprisoned Potential How do you unlock your potential? • Look up: find a model • Give up: at any moment all that we are in order to receive what we can become • Fire up: desire to live, think, and do better • Show up: don’t be intimidated by challenges – meet them head-on • Go up: to the top of your potential

  9. C – Commit Yourself to God’s Plan Ask the following questions: • Am I spending time with the Planner? • What are my gifts? • What are my desires? • What are my true friends saying about my strengths and weaknesses? • What are my opportunities? • Am I carrying out His plan?

  10. C – Chart Your Course “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail” • We must plan • Plans fail when you don’t take inputs • Don’t rush into the unknown • The sensible watches for problems and prepares to meet them • Any enterprise is built by wise planning “Plan your work and work your plan”

  11. E – Expect Problems “ You can always tell when you are on the road to success; it’s uphill all the way” (Paul Harvey) • Lock him in prison, you’ll get Nelson Mandela; John Bunyan • Burry him in the snow of Valley Forge, and you have George Washington • Cripple him, you’ll get Sir Walter Scott • Raise him in poverty, you’ll get Abraham Lincoln • Strike him down with infantile paralysis and he becomes Franklin Delano Roosevelt • Burn him so severely that doctors say he will never walk again and you have Glen Cunningham, who set the world’s record in 1934 for the one-minute mile • Deafen him and you’ll have Ludwig van Beethoven • Call him a slow learner, retarded, and write him off as uneducable and you have Albert Einstein

  12. S – Stand Firm on Your Commitment • James Corbett, once heavyweight boxing champion was asked what it took to be a champion, and he replied: “Fight one more round” • When asked how he had been so successful in his inventions, Thomas Edison said: “I start where others leave off” • The most famous speech of Sir Winston Churchill was only six words: “Never, never, never, never give up” Don’t quit!

  13. S – Surrender Everything to God Surrender to God… • The first part of every day • The first day of every week • The first portion of your income • The first consideration in every decision • The first place in all of your life When we surrender to Him, we unleash a power that caps off the formula of success!
