  2. When was Mound Bayou founded? It was founded in 1887. It is called Mound Bayou because it is right by an Indian mound where two bayous converge.

  3. Business Ventures Charles Banks started the Negro Business League in Greenville in 1905, which was a self help group. They started the cotton seed oil mill because cotton seed oil was in great demand and because cotton was king in the South.

  4. What was so special about how Mound Bayou was governed? The people of MB governed themselves. It was run by all Black people. The government truly worked for the best interest of the community. The women of Mound Bayou were also involved in the government.

  5. Why was the railroad so important They bought the land from the rail road. The rail road provided transportation. It also provided jobs.

  6. What are some things they had to do to build their homes? They had to cut down the trees to clear the land. They used the wood to build their homes. They also sold the wood for lumber.

  7. What are some reasons why this community is so important? All Black Comunity. Self sufficient. Lots of racial pride. Place to hide from White violence. Founded by former slaves. It had an all Black bank.

  8. What were some important amendments that helped Blacks be successful in the South? 13th Amendment-ended slavery. 14th Amendment-Gave Blacks equal protection. 15th Amendment-Gave Blacks the right to vote.
