  3. The 3 Fires! Explain why the Buddha teaches that Greed is the source of all suffering. Draw the 3 Fires and label them. **How are the 3 fires are connected with each other? The reason we suffer from the disappointments and changes in life, is because of GREED. Greed is at the root of all our suffering. Greed makes us want things. It makes us cling to things. It makes us suffer when we lose them. It makes us hate others because they take what we want. If we are ignorant of this fact, we will just carry on being greedy, and continue to suffer. The Three Fires So stop being IGNORANT, get rid of GREED and LOVE others as much as you are greedy for yourself, and you will find happiness! “When the three fires of greed, hatred and ignorance burning within you are extinguished, then you will experience the deathless state of perfection (enlightenment)”.

  4. Buddhists summarise these insights into greed and suffering as the 4 Noble Truths – it is the Buddha’s most important teaching. If you recognise for yourself the 4 Noble Truths, you can change your life. 5. Lotus Flowers: how can they be a symbol of purity? • The roots of a lotus are in the mud, the stem grows up through the water, and the flower lies pristinely above the water, basking in the sunlight. • This represents the progress of the mindfrom the primeval mud of greed and selfishness, into the bright sunshine of enlightenment.
