What is MeOC ? A brief, simple conversation to influence positive health or lifestyle choices. In fact it’s really very simple........
Groundwork MeCC + Keep Well + MeOC 2012 Prevent + Improve + Change + Redress Health Inequalities
3 tier approach 3. Structured wellbeing conversation – complex needs Complex 2. Specific conversation e.g. Work/employability/alcohol Specific 1. Light touch conversation Brief
What MeOC is definitely Not • Staff becoming counsellors, specialists or experts • Another task to add to an already busy working day • Telling people how they must live their life
It’s also about........ • prevention rather than cure • improving peoples lives • changing society for the better • redressing health inequalities • saving money
Who could/should do MeOC? Everyone
Here are a couple of reasons why it has something to do with you ........ this would create 12 new opportunities to change a lifestyle behaviour. 1 person had 1 lifestyle conversation per month for one year
Here’s some good news Research shows that when one person makes a change the ripples spread outwards and other people around them, the family and friends, are more likely to change as a result
If we don’t raise health related issues?...... • We miss out on a great opportunity to give people choice to think about what they are doing and whether they want to consider change
What if....... • The person doesn't want to talk? • Is not fluent in English? • Is tearful? • Is in a hurry? • Is not telling you the truth? • It’s not appropriate?
Most common health & wellbeing issues? • Mental health • Smoking • Healthy weight • Drinking alcohol • Physical activity • Money
You don’t have to know everything You're not alone
It just takes 00:00:30 00:03:00 seconds minutes
