Mr. Greening's Science site aims to involve students in active learning, making them think deeper and work harder. It emphasizes self-efficacy, teamwork, respect, and active participation. The course requires a minimum of 30 lab hours and culminates in the Regents Exam.

Earth Science… • Is a High School level course • Culminates in a Regents Exam • Friday, June 19, 2020 @ 1:15 p.m.* • *time subject to change • Requires a minimum of 30 successful lab hours (1200 minutes) to qualify for the Regents exam • Must be done in PENCIL • Must be done fully & up to JGHS standards
Earth Science… • Requires active involvement by students • Meaningful participation is expected, and required • Is a privilege, not a right • Nobody has the right to deny another education… • Think sheets • Parent Contact • Referrals • Removal from class
Grading Policy Tests, Quizzes, Labs, Projects, and Classwork = 90% of the Marking Period Grade • Projects may include current events reading in science, presentation to the class, on a particular topic, constructing a model, researching a topic of interest Homework = 10% of Marking Period Grade Mid-Term:Counts as one test grade for marking period 2 Late work: HW: no late HW accepted Labs: 10% penalty per day; not accepted after 5 days late
Earth Science – Book(s) • Textbook: Online: https://www.ck12.org/book/CK-12-Earth-Science-For-High-School/ • Lab Book: Explorations in Earth Science (This book should never come home!) • Barron’s Review Book: may be purchased on own. Helpful way to practice prior tests.
Lab Policy • A minimum of 1,200 minutes (30 lab hours) of hands-on lab work is required to be eligible for the Earth Science Regents Exam in June • Some labs will require a formal write up • Others will require discussion questions only • There will be no warnings for misbehavior in lab. Student safety is paramount, so any misbehavior will result in student expulsion from the lab • The expelled student will receive a zero and no credit for that lab • Continued misbehavior may result in the student being removed from the course
