  3. How to Help • Get students to master previous material • Get students to level to be ready for progress • Develop vocabulary • Develop understanding between vocabulary and actual events • Use familiar events

  4. Heat and Temperature • Difference between “heat and temperature” • Teachers use terms indiscriminately • Heat Equilibrium vs. Heat Interaction • Breakdown parts (specific heat, calorie)

  5. Impulse and Momentum • Derived from F=ma • No real explanation why • Problems come when examples are not true examples (ie. Car wrecks, human body)

  6. Conservation of Energy • Not derived by laws of motion • Way it is introduced does not make it clear to students

  7. Work and Heat • Can become complex real quick (shear stress, abrasions) • Price about making things simpler: “converting work into heat”

  8. Deformable Systems • Zero Work Force • Internal energy (human body) • Change in center of mass • Moving arms • Rolling Down Incline Plane • Slippage • Deformed surfaces • Inelastic Collision • Ball hitting a wall
