  1. MMU Ethics Procedure This process should be followed for ALLresearch projects undertaken within Manchester Metropolitan University If you have any questions about the process below contact the Faculty Research Group Officer (RGO) If you have any questions relating to ethical concerns contact the Faculty Head of Academic Ethics (HoE) Complete Ethics Check List ( You must attach a Risk Assessment & Project Protocol) • If you have ticked ‘no’ to all questions, or ‘yes’ to questions 1-4 but ‘no’ to all other questions ,attach the completed and signed form to your project approval form, or equivalent. • Undergraduate and taught higher degree students should retain a copy of the form and submit it with their research report or dissertation (bound in at the end). • MPhil/PhD, and other research degree students should submit a copy to the Faculty Head of Research Degrees with their application for registration (RD1) and forward a copy to the Research Group Officer. • Members of staff should send a copy to the Research Group Officer before commencement of the project. If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions 5a-17 on the Ethics Checklist Complete ‘Application for Ethical Approval’ and submit it to the Faculty RGO. The RGO will liaise with the HoE to identify an independent person to scrutinise the application and provide a report. There are four possible outcomes Favourable Opinion Granted Favourable Opinion with Modifications Granted Further Scrutiny required Approval not granted. Applicant advised to amend protocol Applicant revises protocol as advised and submits to the Faculty RGO. Original Scrutiniser confirms modifications sufficient Original Scrutiniser states modifications NOT sufficient File approval paperwork and commence project
