Introduction of Problem • Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) • STEM education is the key to the future • Lack of Diversity in the STEM fields • Statistics imply that major research universities are purposely filtering out underrepresented students to make room for the naturally gifted students. • College priorities are intertwined with personal gain. • High Schools need to do their part also.

  4. How I Relate to the Problem. • I am a freshman at UC Merced that is going into a STEM field. • I am one of the few. • I have many fears about not succeeding in the major from the low attendance of minorities in the fields.

  5. The Solution to the Problem • Start at high school. • Better instructors. • More support for underrepresented groups. • More media.
