  1. In the mean time

  2. John 16:16-33

  3. I. The COARSE to be of good cheer

  4. (Joh 16:16-19) A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

  5. A. The time involved in this course

  6. (Joh 7:33) Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. (Joh 12:35) Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

  7. (Joh 13:33) Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. (Joh 14:19) Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

  8. How much time is in a little while?

  9. (2Co 4:17) For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

  10. B. The transformation in this course

  11. (Joh 16:20-22) Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

  12. Weep: to sob out loud Lament: to complain or bewail Sorrow: distress or passively to be sad grieve, be in heaviness Travail: birthing pain Anguish: pressure, burdened, persecution, trouble.

  14. EASY DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE 1/2 cup cocoa milk (see note below) 4 tablespoons butter 1 cup sugar 1 egg yolk 1 cup all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda Preheat oven to 350°F. In a 1 cup measure, put cocoa powder; add a small amount of hot water and stir until cocoa dissolves. Fill remainder of measuring cup with milk to bring the measurement up to 1 cup total. Combine flour, salt and baking soda, mixing well. Set aside. Beat shortening or butter and sugar, add egg yolk, beating for one minute. Stir in vanilla and remaining ingredients. Mix for one minute. Turn batter into a buttered brownie pan which has been lightly dusted with cocoa (shake out any excess cocoa). Bake for about 40 minutes or until cake tests done.

  15. (Rom 8:28) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  16. II. The COMMAND to be of good cheer

  17. (Joh 16:33) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

  18. (Act 23:10) And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle. (Act 23:11) And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

  19. III. The CHOICE to be of good cheer

  20. (Joh 16:33) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

  21. A. The choice is based on your tactic

  22. (Gen 29:20) And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

  23. (Gen 42:36) And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.

  24. (Jas 1:2-4) My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
