  1. About Book Baton Project・・・ Book Baton Project is a project in which books in the office and at home are collected as part of KVH’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and reused. Books change hands like batons and finally turn into books read by children all over the world. The project uses the process established by ValueBooks Co. Ltd for NPO activities (Charibon) to recycle used books. Collect books to be donated “Value Books” will collect, classify and assess books. The assessed amount is donated to “Room to Read”. Books are sent to children all over the world.

  2. What is Room to Read? Room to Read is an international organization working to help millions of children in developing countries develop literacy skills and provide gender equality in education with the belief that “World Change Starts with Educated Children”. We collaborate with local communities, partners and local governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school We have supported more than 8.8 million children in Asia and Africa since 2000 and our goal is to reach 10 million children and offer educational opportunities by 2015. In Japan, two staff members and more than 1,000 volunteers are involved in activities to bring about positive changes for children in developing countries.   4. Q:What kind of books can I donate? A:Books you bought at book-stores in Japan and through Amazon are normally accepted. • However, no magazines, encyclopedia or comic books are accepted. If you are not sure, see if books have ISBN numbersor not. If not, they cannot be accepted. • Music CDs, movie & drama DVDs and game software are also acceptable. Not accepted! Books without ISBNnumbers Magazines Encyclopedia Comic books OK! Books with ISBN numbers CDs, DVDs Game software

  5. Q: How can I send them? • A:Pack at least 5 items (books, CDs, DVDs, game software) in a paper bag or cardboard box. • (Donated items are to be sold. Use cushioning materials as necessary so as to not damage the contents. ) • Be sure to fill out an application form (form agreeing to donate) and include the form in the package. 5 items or more Application form (Form agreeing to donate) Use a cardboard box or paper bag with cushioning materials as needed.

  6. Q: How do I request for the pickup? • A: Call ValueBooks to pick up the package. 0120 – 826 - 295 Tell the operator that you want to make donations to “Room to Read”. Hours [Mon〜Sat] 10:00-21:00 [Sun] 10:00-17:00 *Yamato Transport will visit you to pick up at the time as specified by you. * The transport fees are free if the package contains at least 5 items (books/DVD/CD, etc).

Q: How do I know how much I have donated? • A:A donation receipt will be sent to you from ValueBooks by mail. • The quantity of donated books, CDs, DVDs, game software is given on the form, along with the donated monetary amount (assessed value). * No receipt is issued. • The quantity of donations, donated value, number of employees who made donations are reported to the company once a month. *The report is sent out in the middle of the following month.

Q: What types of books are sold at high values? • A: Recent best selling books, CDs of popular singers, popular movie DVDs, popular game software are often sold at high values. • Prices, however, change day to day. For example, the value of best selling book goes down if its paper back version is released.

  9. Q: How will my donation used? • A:Through the Room to Read Program, children in Asia and Africa will receive the lifetime gift of “education”. A local children’s book can be donated for 100 yen, educational support for a girl for a year can be given for 25,000 yen, a library can be built in Asia for 500,000 yen and a school can be built in Asia for 4.3 million yen.Depending on the amount of the annual donation, what we can do will vary. Your donations are appreciated.
