  5. They emphasized prayer over virtue (Matt 23:14)

  6. They emphasized quantity over quality (Matt 23:15)

  7. They emphasized the common over the holy (Matt 23:16-22)

  8. They emphasized actions over motives (Matt 23:23-24)

  9. They were masters of disguise (Matt 23:25-30)

  10. A Surpassing Righteousness • He practices the faith he professes. • He does not glorify himself, but glorifies God. • He is willing to change at God’s command. • He places equal emphasis on virtue & prayer.

  11. A Surpassing Righteousness • He is not concerned with amassing people, but in turning souls to Christ. • He emphasizes holy over common. • He places equal emphasis on every command. • He is the righteous man he appears to be.
